The Winthrop Girls ran their way to the 2019 Mountain Valley Conference Cross Country October 19 at the University of Maine Augusta. The Ramblers finished with a team score of 41, to edge the Monmouth Academy Mustangs, who finished with 43 points. Boothbay/Wiscasset came in third with 75 points, with Richmond, Oak Hill, and Hall-Dale rounding out the team scoring.
Bailey Coates of Spruce Mountain was the first individual to cross the finish line, completing the course in 21:39.3. Winthrop’s senior Jillian Schmelzer came in second with a time of 22.13.7. The Mustangs’ Kaitlin Hunt finished third at 22.16.1. Other top finishers were Leah Wescott of Richmond (22:37.9), Madison Forgue of Winthrop (22.50.8), and freshman Holly Hunt of Monmouth (22.52.8).
