Mountain Valley's Jaden Boulanger opened up the 2022 Mountain Valley Skiing Championships with a gold medal performance in the Giant Slalom at Black Mountain of Maine in Rumford on February 9th. The Falcon skier crossed the finish line with runs of :58.94 and :57.35 for a two-run total of 1:56.29. Taking silver was Rangeley's Amelia Stokes, who had runs of 1:00.45 and :59.33 for a 1:59.78 total. Winning bronze was Stokes teammate Breezy Quimby with runs of 1:01.40 and 1:00.54, giving her a score of 2:01.93. Also finishing in the top 6 were Mae Hoff of Telstar (2:04.14), Jocelyn Nivus of Telstar (2:07.37), and Rangeley's Natalie Stokes (2:08.47).
The Rangeley girls took the early lead in the team alpine standings with a total of 785.0 points. Telstar was second with 779 points followed by Mountain Valley with 762 points. Spruce Mountain (189), Mt. Abram (187), and Dirigo (185) rounded out the results from the first day. Day 2 of the competition will be held on Saturday, February 12th at Titcomb Mountain in Farmington.
